Out of the Box Theatre Company is currently casting for its fall production, Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill.

DESCRIPTION:

Inspired by the themes and emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning album, Jagged Little Pill is an original story about pain, healing, and empowerment. The Healys appear to be a picture-perfect suburban family—but looks can be deceiving. When the Healys’ lives are disrupted by a series of disturbing events, they must choose between maintaining the status quo or facing harsh truths about themselves, their community, and the world around them.

Performances are scheduled November 14-23, 2025 at Center Stage Theater (Fri-Sun). Rehearsals scheduled to start September 22, 2025 and will generally be held five evenings a week.

CASTING:

[MARY JANE
] 40-50s. White. The “Perfect Mother” - a polished suburban housewife whose main priority in life is presenting a perfect image to the world; inwardly, she is struggling with processing trauma from her past and battling an addiction to prescription pills. Virtuosic multiple octave range and strong rock belt.

[FRANKIE
] 18+ to play 16. A Black transracial adoptee growing up in an affluent white family, Frankie aspires to be a writer and is passionate about social justice. Still figuring out who she is as a person, but she’s not afraid to stand up for what is right, which creates tension in the Healy home. Extremely strong, dynamic, powerful rock singer, also comfortable with lighter pop style singing.

[STEVE] 
40-50s. White. A partner at a successful law firm, this workaholic husband and father is struggling with staying present for his family as the pressures of his job and being the breadwinner of the family consume him. He feels his wife Mary Jane slipping away from him. A strong rock singer.

[NICK
] 18+ to play 18. White. The “perfect” son, Nick is an athlete and star student; he often feels like he can’t be his true self because his parents are living vicariously through him; Nick guards his reputation carefully; he fears being exposed and losing everything. Strong rock tenor.

[BELLA/ENSEMBLE
] 18+ to play late teens. Any ethnicity. One of Nick’s friends, a free-spirited aspiring artist. Bella has a party girl reputation at school, but there is pain beneath her fun-loving facade. After being sexually assaulted by a classmate, Bella finds the strength and support to stand up to her attacker. Strong, soulful rock voice with dynamic range.

[JO] 
18+ to play 16. Any ethnicity. AFAB (assigned female at birth) teenager on a gender expansive journey that their parents are convinced is just a phase. Jo has been best friends with Frankie since childhood and has since entered into a romantic relationship with her. Their sense of humor is a defense mechanism, a way of hiding their vulnerability. Has a strong, powerful, dynamic rock voice.

[PHOENIX/ENSEMBLE
] 18+ to play 16. Male-presenting. Any ethnicity. The new kid at school. Sensitive, creative. Pop/rock tenor.

[ENSEMBLE] 
17 – 30s. All gender identities. All ethnicities. Incredibly strong singer/actor/dancers to play various members of the community including a doctor, pharmacist, therapist, teacher, students, parents, etc. Ensemble members must have powerhouse rock vocals and move expressively.
